From nine in the morning until five in the evening, the halls of Rappahannock County High School were filled with music as the local high school hosted the District 9 Solo and Ensemble Festival last month.
Participants came from Fauquier, Culpeper, Warren, Loudon, and Clarke county schools as well as local schools. Rappahannock had 15 participants, most from the elementary school, but two from the high school.
Band Director Wendy Whitford oraganized the festival, a massive undertaking. Seven rooms were set up for judges and performers. Another seven rooms were set aside as warm-up rooms for participants to use just before performing, and the audi: torium served as a general warmup room and for instrument storage. Performances were scheduled in 10-minute intervals.
Volunteers staffed the registration table, and student runners served to make sure participants were where they needed to be to warm up and perform for the judges.
