A large “L unch” made up of both men ai.^ women gathered last Wednesday to hear Martha Phillips, executive director of the Concord Coalition, discuss what citizens can do about the federal government’s debt.
The Concord Coalition, formed by former Sen. Warren Rudman and former presidential candidate and Sen. Paul Tsongas, hopes to become a grass roots organization representing ordinary citizens who will pressure Congress and the president to adopt budget policies that eliminate the annual deficit and bring down the national debt.
Mrs. Phillips, who had previously worked for Republican members of Congress, said that most congressmen are “good people who really know what the right thing to do is and want to do the right thing, but it gets worse and worse.”
She said by forming local chapters of the Concord Coalition in every congressional district, the organization plans to “create noise and concern in their own backyards
