Bluemont’s series of popular oldtime country dances continues this Saturday, May 8 with the popular stringband, the Velcro Monkeys and figure caller Paul Ackerman at the Rappahannock Elementary School in Washington, Virginia. These Second Saturday dances attract people throughout the area with wonderful oldtime country dancebands and figure callers and a friendly atmosphere that welcomes both new and experienced dancers.
Sponsored by the Bluemont Concert Series, the dances begin at 8 p.m. with a beginner’s workship at 7:30 p.m. Instruction and calling are provided throughout the dance; single dancers are welcome. Homemade refreshments by the Spring Mountain School will be available throughout the dance. Admission is $5 per person; $3 for Bluemont Friends. All are welcome.
The May dance features the Velcro Monkeys, a wonderful oldtime danceband with fiddle, mandolin, guitar, piano and stand-up bass and dance caller Paul Ackerman, all from Charlottesville. The evening will include oldtime Southern and New England country dances in circles, lines and squares.
The Bluemont-Rappahannock Dance Committee announced a special dance on Saturday, June 5 to make up for the winter dances lost to snow. . 5.
