The camp focuses on riding skills, emphasizing the English saddle balanced seat method.
Instruction is individualized depending on the background, experience and interests of the students. Everybody receives basic instruction in the fundamentals of horse management, including catching, feeding, grooming, and cleaning. A horse shoeing demonstration by farrier Scott Keyser interests many of the students.
Advanced students can study jumping, bareback riding, and other subjects. The highlight of the week for many students occurs on the last day when the riders exhibit their newly acquired skills in a horse show.
On hot days horses and student keep their cool by holding lessons in the covered indoor ring. A swim break (for the riders) also helps beat the heat.
The next camp session will be July 13-17 and August 10-14. Classes are held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Horse boarding is available. For additonal information call 987-9545.
