They have presented plans to voters which are earning their respect and support.
Part of George Allen’s educational reform plan, which I would like to address, will save Rappahannock taxpayers thousands of dollars and give more control to parents and our local school board.
George Allen and Mike Farris want to eliminate or modify costly, time-consuming mandates and regulations which burden our Rappahannock school system. This action will ensure that a minimum amount of our teachers’ time is spent on administrative activities and that more time is actually spent teaching. Modification and repeal will give our local school board more flexibility in spending our local tax dollars for education.
Perhaps this is too conservative a proposal for your paper. But it is one important change teachers, parents and taxpayers want for their school system and children.

Oliver North, with millions of dollars of political money behind him, is moving ahead in Virginia politics. He is clearly getting ready to run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Charles S. Robb. Some of the media make the mistake of comparing North’s and Robb’s past legal problems as if they were similar.
