To the Editor:

Whenever I see vicious, undocumented editorials like “Too Big a Right Turn” printed in your paper (and similar ones in the Washington Post) attacking the Virginia Republican candidates, I have no smile.

If George Allen, Mike Farris and Jim Gilmore didn’t have a good chance to win in the election, these ; editors wouldn’t have bothered to attack them.

I’m smiling because this means that some journalists are afraid that our Republican candidates are striking a responsive chord with voters. And it’s true. The most recent poll (Richmond tv station WWBT-12) now shows that George Allen has elminated Mary Sue Terry’s lead. They are tied now at 37 percent each with 25 percent undecided. George Allen and the Republican ticket are on their way to a victory in November.
