After an emotional public hearing Monday night the Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 0 to rezone 10 acres behind the Faith Mountain Company’s catalogue operation from agricultural to General Commercial so the company can expand. Supervisor Chairman Hubert Gilkey abstained because he is doing construction work for Martin and Cheri Woodward, owners of the company, and vice chairman Charles K. “Pete” Estes chaired the meeting.

Attorney Douglas Baumgardner and Mr. Woodward made presentations similar to those they made at the Planning Commission last month. In addition the Woodwards offered another proffer that if water and sewer service become available in the area, they will hook up.

Mr. Woodward said the new’ building they will build will not be another metal building. He said it would be of bar joist construction with a textured masonry outside, and the front building will get a more “retail friendly” front addition for selling “overstocked items from the catalogue.”

He said they had looked at several other properties, but other properties that would suit the business were not for sale.

Conrad Koneczny, owner of the Public House, spoke in favor of the application, saying the Faith Mountain Company brings in tourist business to help the county's economy and that the business uses the Public House for meetings.

Linda Dietel said the company is an industry that "does not impact agriculture.” She added that it offers desireable high quality employment.

Susan Babcock and Mark Malek aLo spoke in favor of the rezoning.

Richard Caldwell, who owns property adjoining the land slated for rezoning opposed the application. He said he was being squeezed by commercial uses
