The supervisors accepted Jack Jenkins’s low bid of $48,487 for remodeling the garage purchased from Virginia Lindstrom for use as a magistrates’ office.
Mr. McCarthy noted that at least one of the proposals for a horse track in Virginia might have an impact in Rappahannock. He said that the proposal by the Virginia Jockey Club to locate a track in Prince William County near Haymarket would bring 1,500 jobs to the area.
When asked if that would have any effect on Rappahannock, Mr. McCarthy said, “Whenever jobs are brought closer to Rappahannock, a percentage of people are willing to live in Rappahannock to commute to those jobs.”
The state racing commisslbn will select one site for a race track. Several other proposed sites are far from Rappahannock.
The supervisors agreed to advertise an amendment to the zoning ordinance banning sludge. The Planning Commission will consider the amendment August 18.
