Washington resident Welby Lynn was elected to the office of historian for the Virginia Junior Classical League at the National Junior Classical League Convention held July 25-30 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The 160-member Virginia delegation to the national convention elected the Wakefield Country Day School junior for a oneyear term.
The historian’s major duty is to be the archivist, compiling a scrapbook detailing the events of the state’s chapters, which number nearly 100. Virginia is one of the leading states in the U.S. in promotion and teaching of the Classics.
“This is certainly an honor for Welby and for Wakefield Country Day Schoo. The delegation has chosen well; Welby will do a superb job,” commented Wakefield’s Junior Classical League sponsor, Kay Larrieu, who accompanied the seven Wakefield Country Day School students to the national convention and was assisted by Wakefield alumnus Chris Larrieu.
