Dr. Krebser said that studies have shown no health hazards for people who work in sewer plants. He said that most of the people who had opposed sludge don’t live near where it can be applied, since it is only allowed on relatively flat land. He noted that Bio-Gro supplies lime as well as sludge with Blue Plains sludge and that most Rappahannock soils are acid and need the lime. He said that non-farmers were interfering with the farmer’s right to earn his livelihood. He noted that in his native Switzerland sludge has been used for years with no bad effects “and it’s a tourist country.”
