Road Repairs

In Progress

Construction of the four-lanes of IT.S. 211 and 522 may be the major highway project in the county, but work is also proceeding on some of the smaller county roads

These roads are repaired and maintained by the local Virginia Department of Transportation office in Washington, said VDOT supervisor Ron Marshall.

The four-lane project is being done under contract to an outside construction company, and the local VDOT office has no responsibility for this job. Once the new highway is accepted by the state, the task of upkeep and repair will fall to VDOT.

Work is in the last stages on Route 622 in Gid Brown Hollow, and the road should be open in its entirety within a few weeks. However, the final tar and gravel may not be applied until the onset of cooler weather this autumn, said Marshall.

A rock ledge was blasted away to help widen a portion of Route 612 in Old Hollow. In addition, a power line pole has to be relocated. The project is slated for completion this autumn.

Work is also continuing on Route 621 west of Five Forks, said Marshall.
