Many Rappahannock County homes and business lost power for several hours earlier this week.
Virginia Power and Rappahannock Electric Cooperative report that damage to a major Virginia Power transmission line from Remington to Gordonsville affected several thousand area customers served by both utilities and the Town of Culpeper on Monday, August 23.
According to Ray Hugo, Director of Customer Service for Virginia Power’s Orange District, a large piece of industrial equipment operating east of Culpeper severed one of their 115 kV transmission lines at approximately 3 p.m. As a result, 3,000 Virginia Power customers were without power.
