Sometimes such people have even been known to hedge their bets by giving to both candidates for a particular office. In fact, that practice is not at all uncommon and says something about how deeply the contributors really feel about party politics.
I am not suggesting there is anything at all wrong with the way they do business, but their money is not intended to help promulgate the philosophy of a party, but to give them access to those who rise to political pow’er.
If the Post wanted to make the point that the smart money in Northern Virginia seems to be flowing to the Democratic side this year, all well and good. But to suggest that this money is coming from rockribbed Republicans is ludicrous, and another example of this newspaper's distorted coverage of state politics.
