Poetry Reading Planned
Middle Street Gallery regrets to announce that it’s September showing of “Images from Africa,” oil paintings by Nigerian artist Osajienye Kenaibi, has been canceled. Mr. Kenaibi was unable to leave his *»unt'ry at this time, every effort is being made to*schedule the show in The*uture. v. “New Work by Gallery Artists” will replace “Images from Africa.” The opening will be Saturday, September 12th from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be an open poetry reading at 4. Children, adults and senior citizens are invited to read upto three poems. Among those showing new Work will be Robin Purnell, Jeanne Drevas, Laurie Marshall, Dan Lewis, Doug Teller, Janet Kerigand Mary Brownstein. Gallery hours are U a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday through Saturday.
Fundraising Event
The Friends of the Rappahanhock Library will be having a fundraising event ^entitled, “A Novel Affair” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 at The Meadows, the home of Edward and Martha Barton in Washington.
The event, featuring a light buffet and dancing, is designed around a literary motif and all guests are encouraged to come as their favorite literary character. All proceeds will go towards the replensihment and enhancement of the adult and children’s classics collection of the library. Tickets are $25 per person. Tennis Tournament
The Rappahannock County Park Authority will sponsor a Juniors tennis tournament Aug. 28 and 29. There will be a single and/or double depending upon the draw. For additional information call Jean Lillard, evenings, 675-3670.
Shorin Ryu Karate
Classes in DIunawan Shorin Ryu Karate will take place Wednesday afternoons, beginning Sept. 8 at Ki Theatre, Old Town Hall on Gay Street in Washington. Children class will be held 4-5:30 p.m. and women’s class from 5:30-7 p.m..
