area with orchards, vineyards, and rice paddies...didn’t see any beef cattle. We drove to a scenic overlook on a scenic highway similar to the Skyline Drive to view Mt. Fuji. Public Transporation-The traines are efficient and comfortable and you’d better be on time. The only thing that I really DISLIKED was the crowds of people. Twelve million people in one city is too much for a Virginia country girl. But Tokyo is a very exciting and modern city with lots of cultural opportunities. I felt much safer walking and using the trains and subways compared to some of our big cities in the U.S.

Would I go back? In a heartbeat! The two families with whom I stayed were very family-oriented, were good parents, and were very similar to families here. They were supportive of their children’s education, and the two mothers were chauffeuring the kids to piano lessons, dance lessons, sports, swimming, LABO, and extra-curricular activities just like families here. Except for a few customs like taking one’s shoes on and off when entering a house, my impression is that the families and the things that the families value are very simlar.
