NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC OF AN APPLICATION BY

COMMONWEALTH GAS SERVICES FOR AN INCREASE

IN NATURAL GAS RATES - CASE NO. PUE930035

Commonwealth Gas Services, Inc., ("Commonwealth" or "Company") has filed an application for an expedited increase in its natural gas rates with the State Corporation Commission. The application requests rates designed to produce annual revenues of $144,000,000, as set forth in detail - in the Company's application.

The Commission has scheduled a public hearing before a Hearing Examiner for 10:00 a.m. on December 8, 1993, in the Commission's Second Floor Courtroom. Tyler Building, 1300 East Main Street, Richmond, Virginia, to receive evidence relevant to the application.

A copy of the application is available for public inspection during regular business hours at all Commonwealth Offices where customers may pay their bills and from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Commission's Document Control Center, First Floor of the Tyler Building.

Any person desiring to comment on the application in writing may do so by directing such comments to the Clerk of the State Corporation Commission, c/o Document Control Center, P.O. Box 2118, Richmond, Virginia 23216, making reference in the comments to Case No. PUE930035. Any person desiring to make a statement at the public hearing may do so by appearing in the courtroom at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the hearing and identifying himself or herself to the Bailiff as a public witness.

Any person desiring to participate as a Protestant, as defined by the Commission's Rules of Practice and Procedure, must Hip a Notice of Protest, as provided by Rule 5:16(a), with the Clerk of the Commission on or before October 1, 1993, and serve a copy on counsel for the Company, Stephen H. Watts, II, Esquire, McGuire, Woods, Battle & Boothe, One James Center, Richmond, Virginia 23219. Protestants must file, on or before November 16,1993, an original and fifteen copies of (a) prepared testimony and exhibits intended to be presented at the public hearing and (b) a Protest setting forth (i) a precise statement of the Protestant's interest in the proceeding; (ii) a full and clear statement of the facts the Protestant is prepared to prove; and (iii) a statement of the specific relief sought and the legal basis therefore. Copies of (a) and (b) must be served on counsel for the Company and on each other Protestant. Any corporate entity which desires to participate as a Protestant must be represented .by legal counsel according to Rule 4:8. 6
