Rappahannock residents with Culpeper telephone numbers, such as those with 937 and 547 exchanges, got an interesting communication last month froip Bell Atlantic - Virginia (formerly C & P).
For an additional $1.75 a month they will be able to call all over Fauquier and Orange counties without paying long distance charges. This is in addition to currently being able to call Madison and Culpeper counties.
Not all of the Bell Atlantic customers with these telephone exchanges live in Rappahannock County, but many do, and they will be able to call four county seats, but not their own.
Bill Brown, manager of the Culpeper office for Bell Atlantic, said that the company had filed with the State Corporation Commission for this expanded local calling “in response to concerns expressed by many of our customers to be able to reach, on a local basis, their neighbors, businesses, schools, municipal offices and emergency services which are located in adjacent exchanges.”
He said this was part of a statewide program to provide local toll free calls to surrounding jurisdictions for all Bell Atlantic customers where the surrounding jurisdictions are also served by Bell Atlantic.
