None of the estimates for handling trash include the cost of postclosure monitoring of the wells at the landfill site. Recent tests have shown that the pH of the water in the wells has dropped. That will require more expensive monitoring than the current estimate of $9,900 per year.
The supervisors agreed to contract with Chantilly Express of Amissville to haul leachate from the landfill at a cost of 1.63 cents per gallon. They discussed the contract in executive session because the current hauler, Southern American Septic of Marshall, which had bid two cents per gallon, challenged Chantilly’s bid saying the firm was not Currently licensed to haul leachate.
