Artists and Friends, which opened to a festive crowd of more than fifty this past Sunday at The Middle St. Gallery, seems to offer something for nearly everyone.
Since the show is designed for Gallery members to exhibit alongside favorite fellow artists, the works bring together a broad base of talent and media.
Review
Upon entering the gallery one sees the arresting A Mother's Place by Davette Kvames, who is exhibiting as the friend of Kim McLaughlin. A Mother’s Place is a dramatic colored pencil on pastel paper portayal of the artist’s relationship with her mother and sister.
Robin Purnell’s extroardinary talent once again glows in her Evening, a striking portrait of a young woman. The woman appears to shine with a three-dimensional light, a characteristic of Mrs. Purnell’s work. Her stormy stare fuels an inscrutable smile, all caught magnificently against a background of vines, a kingfisher, and a bluebird.
Sandra Burton has included one of her “recycled” wood pieces called Mrs. Phew. Burton has the gift of being able to reveal a vision inherently living within a piece of wood, gently and lovingly bringing out touches that make it clearer to the
