He’s been playing his music for as long as people would listen, far longer than the years since the commercial world found him some 30 years ago.
He was discovered in a gas station by Chuck Perdue, one of the founders of the Folklore Society of Greater Washington. Always a “high-test” performer, Jackson has never been accused of “running on empty.” This incredible man is a fount of talent and good humor.
To hear him tell the story, he did not hope for fame, and never dreamed that anything like his “discovery” would happen. He worked at what jobs he had to make ends meet. This has included being a farmer, butler, chauffeur, Civil War Historian, and gravedigger. He still digs graves for extra income, but after doing the grueling work by hand for 17 years, he now finds the backhoe much more effecient. In addition to that, John Jackson is a philosopher, a humanitarian, and quite an artist.
