The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) has added its voice to those of other state departments of agriculture and is asking the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to delay implementation of portions of the Federal Worker Protection Standard so that Virginia farmers, nurserymen, and greenhouse operators can be adequately trained and informed about compliance requirements.
In a letter from the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, member states asked EPA to provide necessary training to famers and producers.
As it stands now, Virginia producers will be required to meet stringent posting, notification, training, and decontamination requirements as of April 15. Yet some of the training and educational materials needed by state pesticide officials prior to the April deadline still have not been provided.
