Winter '94
For anyone trying to live life by a schedule the winter of 1994 has been a source of endless frustration.
Events have been scheduled, canceled, rescheduled and

The weather wrecked havoc with the high school winter sports schedule, affecting especially the girls’ volleyball teams which did not get to have a parents’ night, and were not even allowed a pizza party as a consolation.
The weather continues to make life difficult, forcing spring sports practice for outdoor events indoors.
Twenty-one school days have been missed through last week. The School Board plans to make up five by giving up on all of the spring vacation except Friday April 1. Another five days will be made up by extending school an extra week into the summer.
School Superintendent David Gangel has suggested that the school system request a waiver from five more days because the school day, when there is a regular school day, . provides more than the minimum five and a half hours of ; instruction.
That leaves six days with possibly more to come. Dr. Gangel said he was considering extending the school day, perhaps starting 15 minutes earlier in the morning and adding another 15 minutes in the afternoon. Another possibility is to schedule school for Saturdays, but Dr. Gangel has said he opposes that because there are usually so many absences that whatever is taught, has to be retaught.
Asking the state for a further waiver is another possibility, and that’s the one the School Board accepted Tuesday night. However, everyone agreed that instructional
