The team was not so lucky on Monday, losing to Brentsville 22-3. Bonnie Jewell hit her first home run, “and she hit it further than any high school or college player I have ever seen,” said Coach Leake. Marsha Freeman hit three for three. Coach Leake attributed the loss to poor pitching, hitting and errors.
Going into the tournament, the team has nine wins and seven losses in the district.
The RCHS baseball team had just one more game this season, to be played against Madison Wednesday. They have not qualified to play in the tournament this season.
The team lost to George Mason on May 10,14-9. J.C. Welch pitched. Jason Brown hit a home run, which was the second home run for the team this season. James Eastham had two hits; and Daniel Dodson and Willie Eastham each had one. The Panthers had four runs in the first inning but could not hold on to it. Coach Bob Howard said, “We made a bunch of errors and gave up some unearned runs which we should not have.”
On Friday, the boys were defeated by Stonewall Jackson, 9-5. “Luke Zindel pitched an outstanding game. He gave up nine runs but none were earned runs,” said Coach Howard. Jason Brown and Daniel Dodson had two hits, Willie Eastham had two hits and two RBI’s, and Luke Zindel and J.C. Welch had one hit. “We had more hits than the other team but we made ten errors and they made two,” said Coach Howard.
Brentsville, the fourth best baseball team in the state, beat the Panthers on Monday, 11-1. According to Coach Howard, J.C. pitched an outstanding game. Rappahannock had three hits to Brentsville’s 12. Jon Diggs and Willie Eastham each had one hit, and Daniel Dodson hit a double.
The RCHS soccer team finished their season with a loss to Brentsville on Monday, 0-3. During the season they had four wins, four losses and three ties. “If we had a deeper bench and had Carlos for the whole season, we would have had a winning season,” said Coach Uli Maeyer.
