LVA Rappahannock the County’s literacy group, has received word from 7-Eleven Stores that it has been awarded a grant of $1,500 in their “People Who Read Achieve” program.
It is the third such grant that LVA Rappahannock has been given by 7-Eleven Stores in as many years.
The two previous grants, plus generous donations by members of the community, have enabled the literacy organization to purchase two computers, a printer, and associated instructional material. With the new funds, the organization plans to acquire additional teaching equipment and material, so that the traditional instruction by books can be expanded to include computer, audio, and video training.
The literacy office is located in the basement of the County Library. Learners who are preparing for their GED exams, and others, meet there at 7 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and from time to time during the week by appointment with their tutors.
