This Friday night the high school auditorium will be ringing with gospel music. ; The Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Association is sponsoring a “Gospelfest” to raise funds for the Ministers and Deacons Union Scholarship Fund.
Wednesday and Thursday evenings members of the community will be taking part in a church choir workshop led by Luther Barnes and some of his regular musicians. ; The concert will feature the results of this workshop as well as Dawid “Scratch” Clanagan and the Free Spirit, Bobby Glasker, the Community Youth Ensemble from Madison and the Ellerbe Brothers from Culpeper.
Luther Barnes is a well-known gospel singer and song writer. “A 'couple of his songs have been Number One on the gospel charts,” said Nanette Butler who is coordinating the event. “We are very fortunate to get him.” I Mr. Barnes lives in Rocky ■Mount, NC, with his wife and .daughter, who both sing with him in ;the Red Budd Gospel Choir.
