By CINDY MAHAN . Rappahannock New* Staff Writer ~ If you weren’t in one of the 26 vehicles entered in CCLC’s Rappahannock Rug Rat Road Rally last Saturday, you missed out on a whole lot of fun.
After arranging for a friend to do the driving for me (actually, my editor’s son, Douglas), we signed up at CCLC and received our list of instructions and questionnaire for the rally. Once watches were synchronized with the official timekeeper, we took off down U.S. 211 toward Washington. ‘ Set out in rhymes, the instructions led us into the town of Washington, picking up answers along the way. Before getting through the town itself, we had answered eight questions, beginning with “What’s raised at Ginger Hill?” (Angus cattle); and ending with “At the center of Washington, is the Inn. (You know the one, dinner...if you win.) No sign at the Inn, but there is a, fountain. There’s only one, if you’re countin’, At the base of this fountain, permanent fowl reside. In logo form, these birds preside.” Swans was the correct answer for this one, which stumped many rallygoers. We actually guessed at swans, only because I knew The Inn’s logo includes a swan.
It was quite a sight to see people squeal into the parking lot by Trinity Church, rush over to the fountain,
