We next pulled into Settle’s Grocery to get prices of Ultra Xtra laundry detergent and Mueller’s lasagne, grabbed some cold drinks, and sped through Flint Hill, easily picking up a few more answers along the way. “At Hidden View, what do you get when you cross a dalmation with a fire engine?”, the answer was “mailbox,” but the organizers agreed this was an ambiguous question, and marked everybody’s answer correct for that one. (The mailbox is actually totally separate from the sign.)
Onward to Ben Venue, picking up the answer to “What color is the frosting on the fence?” (white). We put white quartz, and assume that was marked correct. The fence was at Eddie Sutphin’s on Route 729.
At Ben Venue, we headed east down U.S. 211, and missed a couple of answers right away. We never did see Duchesse Farm on the right, which was the answer to “A noble agricultural occupation?” We also flew by the abandoned farmstand, and missed the question “What is being sold at the abandoned farmstand?” I stupidly filled in “eggs”, having remembered seeing a sign for eggs at the site long ago. The answer, of course, was “nothing.”
