The beautiful, sunny day that brought golfers to the Piedmont United Way’s second golf tournament at the Fauquier Springs Country Club soon turned into rain. But that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of those waiting to demonstrate their handicaps. ,

The game was sponsored by Jefferson Savings and Loan and Pepsi Cola to raise funds for the United Way campaign. Committee members were Tom Winfree, Francis Bums, Frank Foley, Cahrles Foley, T.I. Martin, Jeff Hutchinson, Shirley Stalnaker, Mike Nelms, Joe Jacoby and Betty Roberts.

Corporate sponsors were C. Matthews team, first place winners in flight I; the Fauquier Bank, winners of the second place in flight I; Foley Plumbing and Heating, first place winners in flight II; Jefferson Savings and Loan Association, second place winners in flight II, also People’s National Bank, Pepsi Cola

Fun Shoot Set

For Saturday

A Fun Sporting C|lays Shoot is . scheduled from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. this Saturday August 27 at Shady Grove Sporting Clays in Remington.

The shoot is open to everyone, and everyone, ragardless of shooting ability, will have an apportunity to win. Proceeds from the shoot will be used to pay for thfe new water system installed with private funds at the Phelps Wildlife Management - Area in Sumerduck.

The shoot is sponsored by the Phelps Support Group, an association of Quail Unlimited and bird dog field trial clubs created to do volunteer work at the Phelps WMA. ■ The group has put over $25,000 in labor, equipment and money into the Phelps WMA over the past few years. At little cost of Virginioa taxpayers, the Phelps WMA field trial grounds have been improved dramatically, and electric and water systems have been installed at the bam. - Call (703) 439-2683 for directions.
