He was born in Page County and was a son of Glendon 0. Grandstaff of Luray and the late Anna Fox Grandstaff. in Dr. Grandstaff was an independent evangelist and a U.S. Navy veteran. He held many revivals over the years in churches in Rappahannock County.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Kibler Grahdstaff; three sons, Glen Grandstaff of Virginia Beach, and Tim and Steve Grandstaff, both of Lynchburg- three daughters, Rebecca Wray and Heidi Jenkins, both of Danville and Roxanna Manie of Lynchburg and 11 grandchildren.
He is also survived by five brothers, Lynn Grandstaff of Richmond, Glendon Grandstaff Jr. and William Grandstaff, both of Luray, Theodore Grandstaff of Waldorf, Md., and Robert Grandstaff of Petersburg and three sisters, Catherine G. Hilliard and Charlotte G. Gochenour, both of Luray and Wanda Ricker of Winchester.
Two sons, Benjamin and David, are deceased.
