Benefit Garden Party Planned

A garden party concert to benefit the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community will be held on Saturday, May 11.

Cocktails and light buffet will be served from 5 until 6:30 p.m. with a concert by Tom Espinola and Lorraine Duisit from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Coffee and dessert will also be served. There is a $25 per person charge. The event will be held courtesy of Col. and Mrs. Stewart Willis at their home, Mount Prospect Farm. Rain date is set for Saturday, May 18. Kindergarten Registration

All children who will be five years of age by Sept. 30, 1996, may begin kindergarten this fall. Registration for children who are entering kindergarten this fall will be held at RCES from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 by appointment. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

So that the school may plan adequately for new students, it is very important that all incoming kindergartners be registered. Parents are requested to bring birth certificates and social security numbers to registration. Call Raye Tupper or Martha Kidwell at 987-8259 to arrange an appointment for registration.

TV-Turnoff Week To Begin

National TV-Turnoff Week, April 24-30, will be marked locally by an essay contest on “What I Think About TV” and a poster contest on TV s impact on the family, community, education, health or the environment. Local donations have made possible cash prizes for the top winners in grades 8 through 12 trophies for the winners in grades K through 7. Any child living in Rappahannock County is eligible to enter. There will also be pledge cards available for those who keep TV off for the week. Those who return the cards will be eligible for donated prizes, ranging from free ice cream to use of a private pool. Spring Bazaar Scheduled

The annual Spring Bazaar at Wakefield Country Day School, Inc., Rt. 522, Huntly will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 in the school gym. Free admission. Refreshments will be sold, plants, clothing, appliances, and an upright piano are among the many items. May Day Celebration Set

The public is invited to th6 traditional May Day Celebration at Spring Mountain School from 12 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. Along with the May Pole Dance, there will be rides, games, food, entertainment and crafts. Artists and craftsmen interested in selling their wares can call the school at 675-1458.

Spring Event Scheduled

The Washington Baptist Church Spring Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Events will include a silent auction, plant sale, bake goods, Grandma’s Attic, and lots of good food and drinks.

'White' at The Theatre

On Friday, April 19 at 8 p.m. The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC) will present the award-winning film, “White”, at The Theatre at Washington.

“White” is the late Krzysztof Kieslowski’s second film in a trilogy based on the colors of the French flag that has included “Blue” and “Red” (presented here last season). Kieslowski is part of the great-director pantheon that includes Jean Renoir, Federico Fellini, Yasujiro Ozu, Max Ophuls and Andrei Tarkovsky.

“White” is a continuing testament to the Polish director’s poetic mastery. Like all his works, “White” articulates a whole language of sensations, images, ironies and mystery — often with minimum dialogue. But it is no rarefied, abstract exercise.
