Even though Monday was cold and rainy Rapp’s track team braved thp elements and competed at Strasburg against Stonewall Jackson i and, Strasburg.
Rapp came in third in both boys’ and girls’ competition, with 32 points in the boys’ meet and 4 in the girls’ meet. Stonewall Jackson won the boys meet, and Strasburg won the gifls’ competition.
On the girls’ side, Dawn Havstad who got second in shot put. The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, composed of Robyn Kaye, Jessie Gheen, Tomeka Washington, Tracey Swift, Jill Waters and Jessie Gheen placed third.
The guys received points when Jason Carter took first in the 100 and 200 yard dashes. Jason also had a foitrth in shot put.
Mark Jenkins was first in the 800 and second in the 400. R.J. White was third in the 400. Willie Shanks was third in the long jump and fourth in the high jump. Joshua Waddell was fourth in the 1600 and Caleb Proper was fourth in the 3200.
The 4x100 relay team, made up of . Jason Carter, R.J. White, Willie Styanks and Mike Gilkey, placed second. The 4x400 relay team came in second as well with runners Mark Jenkins, R.J. White, Jennings Hobson, and Tommy Baldwin.
“1 think we did pretty good. We need to train more I think,” commented runner Caleb Proper.
“It was cold and rainy but we tried our best,” added Emily Sims.
Jason and Dawn, however, justified the loss by saying that “With the lack of training facilities our track program will never be as strong as people hope it to be.” ' The team plans to compete again at Brentsville on Wednesday where they hope to have better weather since according to Jason Carter they “went there [Strasburg] with white shirts and left with shirts polka-dotted with mud.”
