The owner of Laurel Mills Store, Mary Francis Fannon, is offering free refreshments to any who join the cleanup.
“If we win,” says Mr. Light, “we’ll donate the money to the Castleton fire department.”
Here are the contest rules:
• Pick up roadside trash anywhere in the county, starting anytime and ending Sunday, April 28.
• Put the trash in large plastic trash bags. You can get huge, heavyduty orange bags free through Hunt Harris at the Ragged Mountain Resource Center, 675-1879.
• Call Mr. Harris to let him know how many bags you filled and where you left the bags, so he can log your entry and arrange for a pickup.
• Though not essential, it would be helpful if you would let Mr. Harris know which stretch of road you are cleaning, so that he can guard against duplication.
• Mr. Harris will drive to each place where the bags are left and verify the amount of trash collected, before announcing the winner of the $100 prize on Monday, April 29.
