To the Editor:
We want to express our sincere gratitude to Carl Payne, Jeff Jenkins, Charlie Thomas, and Curtis Crawford for the hours of time they donated last weekend installing a batting cage for the softball field at RCHS.
The hours of labor, the loads of fill dirt, the equipment time, and the welding skill these men donated to construct the cage is appreciated by every i Rappahannock softball player and their families. Rappahannock girls will give thanks by putting the batting cage to heavy use over the next few years, enabling them to improve their skills and compete successfully.
Community volunteers have been an essential part of our public school and recreational league athletic programs, getting many things accomplished that our strained school budget cannot accommodate. Thank you Carl, Jeff, Charlie, and Curtis for your significant contribution to the softball program.

Goals 2000
To the Editor:
Is it possible that our Rappahannock School Board last week voted to adopt the government’s version of how to educate our children?
Packaged as Goals 2000 it is the same package that our Governor rejected as well as our delegate, Jay Katzen. Many more of those in our county would reject it if they were aware of the consequences.
First of all, since the Federal Government has involved itself in the education of our children, having created the National Education Association over 20 years ago, there has been a steady decline in the quality of our education.
