The softball team added a win and a loss to its record last week in two high-scoring games.
On Tuesday the team bested George Mason 29 to 12. The Panther girls got on base often with 11 hits and 19 walks. Kiersten Kerr led the hitting with three singles. Angie Atkins addded two triples, and Courtney Welch added a single and a double. Courtney Mauro, Can Kerr, Tiffany Keys and Katy Paratore also had singles.
Katy Paratore pitched the first three innings. Kylene Wolfe came in during the fourth inning and Cari Kerr ended the game in the fifth inning.
The game was never in much doubt as the Panthers had 14 runs in the first inning. They added seven runs in both the second and fourth innings.
On Wednesday in an away game with Stohewall Jackson the situation was reversed and the Panthers went down 31 to 13. The Generals had a big 20-run first inning, and while RCHS played even with Stonewall Jackson for the rest of the game, they never recovered. All three girls again pitched, but the Generals had too many walks. Cari Kerr led the hitting with a grand slam home run. Julie Atkins and Courtney Mauro added tripples, and Kiersten Kerr and Tiffany Keys added singles.
