he chose Julie Atkins as the model playing the “drunk driver,” ending up the demonstration by handcuffing her. She had previously done this demo in the DARE class at RCHS and had agreed to also act it out at the DARE summit.
Courtney Mauro and Julie Atkins both agreed that they enjoyed seeing how other schools do the DARE class. Courtney said, “I think the schools performed really well for the people who were there.”
Other classes, including a middle school class from Stafford County and a kindergarten class from Washington, D.C., also demonstrated typical DARE classes from their schools. The kindergarten class began with the decision as to who would be able to hold the “DARE lion” during the class.
The summit was held to introduce representatives from 34 countries to the DARE program so they could learn how to establish it in their countries. Several of the countries from South and Central America were represented, as were Sweden, Thailand, Italy, Australia and the Czech Republic.
