Katie Updike, a member of the Rappahannock 4-H Livestock Club, placed First in the Junior Division for ages 9-13 at the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest on Saturday,. June 29 at Virginia Tech.

There were 65 juniors (ages 9-13) and 80 seniors (ages 14-19) in the state contest.

At the Livestock Judging Contest, the participants judge a class of beef, a class of swine, and a 'class of sheep ranking four ariimals in each class.

The second part of the contest is giving oral reasons which means the participant must explain to the judge the reasons he/she ranked the animals
