A contract for the relocation and • replacement of the Route 231 bridge across the Robinson River at Banco in Madison County was among three contracts for highway projects in the Culpeper district awarded by the Commonwealth Transportation Board at its meeting in Fredericksburg on Thursday, July 18.
W.C. English Inc. of Lynchburg was awarded the nearly. $2 million contract to build the bridge to replace a more than half-century old opentruss steel span structure across the river. New roadway approaches are also included in the contract. These approaches will eliminate sharp curves at both ends of the bridge.
During construction traffic will continue to use the existing bridge Until the new bridge and its roadway ' approaches are completed and opened ' t6 traffic.
