“It’s not the right place for a post office,” said Dave Fannon, Jackson District representative on the planners. He sympathized with Mr. Jenkins. “If I was living across the street, I would not be happy with that.”
Piedmont District representative Tom Junk agreed saying, “That’s a residential area. We should not put any more traffic on that road.”
Wakefield District representative Werner Krebser said it would be difficult to turn down other applications for commercial uses on Route 645 if a post office was approved there.
Mr. Fannon made the motion to recommend that the BZA deny the special use permit “because it doesn’t comply with the intent of the Comprehensive Plan.”
Chairman Mike Massie told the Jenkins family that the Planning Commission could only make a recommendation and that the Board of Zoning Appeals would make the final decision.
