It was the perennial battle between the “shirts” and the “skins” as the Baltimore Boys Basketball Cmp wound down Friday morning, July 12, at the high school.
About 30 boys came out for the camp. The younger ones worked separately from the older ones, but all improved during the week.
By Friday morning several champions had been crowned. In one-onone competition Alfred Roberts was the champion in the older group, and Philip Thomas was the winner in the younger group. Ian Falk was the champion in three-point shooting, and Philip Thomas was the free throw champion among the younger players.
The team of Philip Thomas, David Letsen, Tyler Hartman and Steven Rodden won the championship in a double elimination tournament for the younger group. Among the older campers the team of John Lacombe, Alfred Roberts, B.J.' Christian, Trey Smith and Mark Whorton came out on top.
Camp ended with the “All Star” game. In fact, all the older players who wanted had an opportunity to challenge the coaches in a game. Coach Eugene Baltimore, Jason Gouchenour, Robbi Moose, Bill Cieslewski and camper Shaun Sloan took on all comers for 15 minutes the first half and 20 minutes the second. Even so they prevailed 87-72.
He said he was pleased with the growth of the camp which attracted some campers from Front Royal and Manassas as well as Rappahannock County youth. “The kids worked hard all week,” he said, noting that some
