The Virginia General Assembly authorized a number of special license plates during the 1996 session.
The plates will be issued once each sponsoring organization collects 350 applications to initiate production of the plates. Some of the special plates cost an extra $10 per year and some cost an extra $25. The $25 license plates are revenue-sharing plates. This means that once 1,000 plates are sold the sponsoring organization will receive annually $15 of the $25 plate fee to promote their activities.
Organizations sponsoring $ 10 I plates are the Apple Blossom Festival, the First Marine Division Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the VA Future Farmers of America and the American Red Cross.
