RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF
THE TOWN OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA:
- WHEREAS, It is appropriate that The Town of Washington, being the 'First Washington of them all,' conduct an Independence Day Celebration on the Fourth of July of each year, and
WHEREAS, more than thirty-five years ago, William and Ramona Carrigan of Avon Hall were responsible for initiating and promoting an organized Independence Day Celebration in the Town, and
WHEREAS, said Independence Day Celebration has been held annually since it was begun by William ancLRamona Carrigan, and has become an event which is eagerly anticipated and enjoyed by the residents of Rappahannock County, and
WHEREAS, William Carrigan has continued to lend his presence and his support to the Celebration throughout the entire history of the Celebration, and has made the grounds of Avon Hall available for the fireworks display and for other events related to the Celebration, and has neither asked for nor expected any compensation for his contributions, and
WHEREAS, The Town of Washington is extremely fortunate to have among its residents such a patriotic and community-minded citizen, and on behalf of the citizens of the Town, the Town Council wishes to express its sincere appreciation to William Carrigan for his invaluable contributions, and his dedication to the celebration of America's birthday;
NOW THEREFORE, The Town Council of the Town of Washington. Virginia does hereby express its highest praise and appreciation to William Carrigan for his unparalleled acts of patriotism and service to his community as aforesaid.
