The Rappahannock Historical Society will hold its annual membership picnic at 6:30 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 2 at Althea Terrace, the home of Dwight and Jennifer Matthews, on Main Street in Flint Hill, next to the Flint Hill Store. This is a meeting for paid up members only and their house guests. Dues can be paid ahead of time at the Society Building on Gay Street, by mail, or at the picnic. New members are welcome and may sign their registration at the door.
Members bring their own chairs and a favorite covered dish to share, and their own “cheer” for the social hour before dinner. The society will supply soft drinks, set-ups, tableware, coffee and iced tea.
There will be plenty of room and a place to shelter in case of inclement weather. The business meeting will be sort-and election of officers and their installation will be of importance. This will be a farewell meeting for Capt. Howard and Helen Holschuh, before they leave the county. For more information call the Historical Society Building at 675-1163.
Softball Camp Scheduled
Donn Hackney and Rhonda Jenkins have joined forces to bring an. exciting and competitive camp to RCHS. Areas of instruction to be taught will include hitting, bunting, team defense, fielding, baserunning, and pitching. The camp is open to girls sixth grade and up from 9-12:30 July 24-26 and 29-30. The cost is $85 and will benefit the RCHS Athletic Department. Scholarships are available. Please call Rhonda Jenkins at 675-3083 for more information.
C-M-R Farm Show Family Picnic
There will be a family picnic at the C-M-R Farm Show on Saturday, July 27 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises. The picnic is an “all you can eat chicken BBQ,” and there will be advance tickets for sale at the Extension Office. The cost for tickets is $6 for adults, $3 for youth, and under 6 free. Come by the office and buy your tickets now! This will benefit 4-H youth in Culpeper, Madison, and Rappahannock.
Republican Picnic Planned
The 10th District Republican Committee Annual Picnic featuring Congressman Frank Wolf will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at River Bend Ranch in Page County. The cost is 15 for adults; $7.50 for children and under 3 free. For further information and tickets call Walter Longyear at 675-3679.
Sunday School Gathering Set
A Sunday School picnic for the Flint Hill Church, Sperryville Church and Willis Chapel Church will be July 28 at Harmony Hollow following the 11 a.m. worship service.
Class of '81 Reunion Update
The Reunion Committee of the RCHS class of 1981 has extended the deadline for reservations of their dinner-dance to be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the Panorama Restaurant. Family Reunion Planned
The Jenkins-Sisk-Woodard families will have their annual reunion beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4 at the Rappahannock Park near Washington. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. All relatives and friends are invited to attend and should bring a covered dish.
Summer Reading Program Set
The Rappahannock Library’s Summer Reading Program continues with Aransas, the Story Teller, Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the library. This program is sponsored by the Rappahannock Lions Club, and Mr. Aransas has promised to tell at least one story about a lion!
This is the last of the Wednesday night programs. The final program — Puppets by Pizzazz — will be Saturday afternoon; Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. All pfograms are free and open to the public, so mark your calendars and come!
Democrats Schedule Meeting
The Rappahannock County Democratic Committee will hold a meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30 for its full membership with all other interested people invited to attend. The meeting will be at the Courthouse and for further information call 987-8410.
Soccer Registration Ends July 31
Practice is scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 26 and the first three weeks in Aug. will be dedicated to forming teams, recruiting coaches and calling players. All children bom on and between Aug. 1, 1982 and Aug. 1, 1992 are invited to register for fall soccer. “We will do our best with late registration; however, we encourage everyone to mail in their forms and fees before July 31,” said an organizer.
Registration forms can be picked up at the Boston Store, Laurel Mills Store, Hackley’s, Mountainside Market, Cabin Fever Books and Settle’s Store. In order to register, you need to mail a completed form and $25 application fee for each soccer participant to Lorinda Bosch, P.O. Box 228, Washington, Va. 22747.
