As of July 1, consumer protection for Virginians will be just a phone call away.
On that date, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of* Consumer Protection, began the tollfree 800 number telephone hotline established by the 1996 Virginia General Assembly to provide a way for people across the state to make inquiries and file complaints about possible violations of law regarding consumer transactions.
The toll-free telephone number for Virginia calls from outside the Richmond area is (800) 552-9963.
With one free call, consumers statewide are able to get answers to their questions about a variety of consumer affairs topics, including chari.table solicitations, prizes and gifts, health spas, new and used car problems, 900 number calls, membership campgrounds, unsolicited goods, travel clubs and problems with fraudulent and unfair business practices.
