Last year’s county high school seniors outscored seniors in the surrounding public schools on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
Results released last week show RCHS seniors with an average verbal score of 534 and an average math score of 532 for a combined score of 1066. That is above the average for the state and nation also.
They bested the scores for students at Culpeper, Madison and Warren county high schools and both high schools in Fauquier County. Page County did not release results of the SATs for its two high schools.
RCHS students even outperformed students at Wakefield Country Day School on the mathematics test although they were far behind on the verbal test.
This year’s SAT results represent an improvement from the results for the class of 1995, but not as much as might at first appear. The SAT scoring was recentered last year. For the class
