of 1995 the verbal score was 424 aiid; the math score 473 for a combined score of 897. However, in the recentering process about 80 points were added to the average verbal score and about 30 points to the average math score. If that is dohe to the 1995 scores the results are 500 verbal and 50Q math for combined score of 1000:
RCHS guidance director Jim Futrell attributed the 1996 scores to a “lot of bright highly motivated students.” He said the SAT prep classes offered at the high school may have helped also.
Guidance counselor Joyce Brown said the prep classes are offered for a nominal fee mostly to high school juniors dissatisfied with their scores on the preliminary SAT given at the high school in the fall. The prep classes are timed to help juniors taking the test in May. Students can take either the verbal or the math prep class or both.
Mrs. Brown said, “The kids feel so much more comfortable taking the test” after taking the prep classes.
