Dedication ceremonies for Limberlost Trail in the Shenandoah National Park this Saturday, Sept. 7, will provide recognition for those organizations and individuals who have provided inspiration and support for this project over the past four years.
The new Limberlost Trail is a special place.lt is the park’s first handicapped accessible trail, a gently winding loop about 1.3 miles long, with a crushed greenstone walkway on an even grade. The trail passes old homesites, winds through an area of virgin hemlocks, and crosses Whiteoak Run. It includes a boardwalk through the wetlands area, a wooden footbridge over the run and sturdy backed benches all along its length.
Destry T. Jarvis, National Park Service assistant director for external affairs, will be among the speakers on the program, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
