father did. When he died early in the summer the family asked for memorial donations to be made .to the cause, and Mrs. Burke said that was quite successful. Work has already started on building two bathrooms. A majoi expense will be drilling a well and installing a septic tank and drainfield. Her husband Richard Burke has started in on the wiring. The total cost of the renovation is estimated at $20,000 to $25,000.
The school had two classrooms, and what is referred to as “Miss Mattie’s library.” That smaller room will be made into a kitchen for church use. The larger classroom was for first through third grade. The second classroom held fourth through sixth grade. The school served Chester Gap and the northern part of Huntly.
According to Dennis Williams, one of the former students involved in the renovation project, the school was named for the Reager Post Office, which in tum was named for a family that lived in the area.
