The Theatre at Washington, Va., has several programs scheduled for this fall in Little Washington.
The season’s first performance is a jazz concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, by the Unified Jazz Ensemble. The ensemble is new to this area, though its members have been playing together professionally in the south for several years. They promise an evening of jazz from the “Swing Era,” of the 1930s and 1940s.
The acclaimed “Smithsonian at Little Washington” series begins its fifth season at the Theatre with two concerts to be presented this fall, and a further two next spring. In response to several requests from members of the Theatre’s audience, both of the fall concerts are scheduled for Sunday afternoons.
The new series leads off with Smithsonian Chamber Players cellists Kenneth Slowik and Carla Rosenberg joined by harpischoridst James Weaver. They play a scintillating program of virtuoso music by Bach, Vivaldi, Boccherini and other composers. The concert begins at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13. There will be a preconcert talk from the Smithsonian at 3:30.
