Along the same lines, Mr. Ellis cited the environment as his key issue. "I have a deep, abiding faith in the' resiliency of the American system," he said. "This is a country that held a free election during a civil war. I think we can probably survive anything except destroying the planet. We're at a point now where if we are not intelligent about it, we can literally consume this planet...The environment is the one that scares me."
