The Middle Street Gallery is sponsoring Sharon Yates of the Maryland Institute,. College of Art in Baltimore in a two day Figure Painting Workshop Nov. 7 to 9.
Ms. Yates, a native of Rochester, NY, received her BFA from Syracuse University and MFA from Tulane University. She has received 13 awards for her work and study including the Rome Prize in Painting (19721974). She has taught painting and drawing since 1966 at several institutions including the University of Louisville, University of Maine as well as the Maryland Institute. She has been included in over 65 curated and juried exhibitions and many one-person exhibitions as well as being represented in two of Allan Gussow's books, A Sense of Place-The Artist and The American Land, and Artist As Native.
Ms. Yates uses a one on one approach to teaching so that students will receive individual instruction according to their needs to advance their abilities or to improve techniques. This dedicated artist and teacher will share her love of painting, her experiences and her struggles.
